Creativity is a way of life ✩ Postcard 03
Hello Lovely.
I hope you had a wonderful Equinox and a happy Astrological New Year!
I’ve been terribly busy lately, so I don’t have a whole lot to share. I’ve been really bad with keeping up with all of my journals this year—and just all the projects I want to do as well. One thing I am doing this year is beginning to work on my art book. Juni from Willowbound Journals and I have been meeting monthly as we work on our books together, which gives each of us a bit of accountability to get them done.
The thing I’m doing right now to begin my book is going through all of my journals and pulling out passages I may want to include in my book. While doing so, I read through an entry I made back in 2023 where I journaled about creativity. I’ve been struggling with my creativity as of late and reading my old journal entry really inspired me. So I felt like sharing it with you all in hopes that it will inspire you too.
Creativity is a way of life. It is the act of living. We get to co-create our lives with the Universe and that is a magical and powerful thing. Our lives become a work of art because we are all artists. Every piece is unique to you. No one will create the same things or in the same way as you do. It is how we embrace and share our full and true colors.
I like thinking that I’m actively creating each and every day. From the cup of tea that I make in the morning to the art journal spread I create at night. We are all creating every minute of every day and that is beautiful.
We are all artist and life is our masterpiece.
I would love to go back to a time where I embraced creative abandon. To the younger me who freely wrote stories without feeling the need to self edit. That younger me who drew cartoons and tried her best to color within the lines. Who woke up early on a Saturday morning to watch Pappyland on PBS, with a pencil and sketchpad on her lap. She was so wide-eyed and ready to dip her toes into any new creative adventure.
To create like a child is to approach life like a new beginning—you know that feeling when you begin something new and you’re filled with excitement to try and buy everything. You make mistakes and you play. But the important thing is to release perfectionism and your expectations on how things should look in the end. Because nothing is perfect and you are just beginning. Just enjoy the process and don’t compare your art to others. You’re on a whole different path all your own.
Actions to be more creative:
- Embrace imperfection
- Practice mindfulness
- Play with all the supplies even the ones you don’t know how to use
- Make the time to do something creative each day
- Be okay with making for 5 minutes, if that’s all you have time for
- Enjoy the process
- No pressure to get things done. Sometimes you can create just to create and not actually make anything specific.
- Get out and experience the world around you
- Take chances
- Pay attention. Be astonished. Then tell about it.

Just Inspiring
sharing a few of my favorite things
“Spring comes, whatever our personal state of mind. If you are feeling good about life, then the extra energy boost is there for you – but what if you are not feeling so good? What then? That’s when I have found that consciously tuning into the unstoppable energy of the turning earth gives me strength and gives me hope. It’s not just sunshine and warm air—spring can be wet and windy—it’s the sap rising, the green growing, the birds singing, it’s power, and it’s free to use.
Breathe deep, throw back your head, open your chest, stand up straight, speak. Speak what’s on your mind—tell the Spring about it. This is not crazy. Leaning against a big old tree that’s seen more springs than we ever will, is not crazy. Let things go – that’s part of Tao. Spring is a new beginning—whether we like it or not—and in our own lives, whether we like it or not—we must be able to begin again.
Spring is about beginning again, and beginning again can be so much harder than staying in the winter of your life.”
— Jeanette Winterson (Spring Equinox)
✩ To Read: The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. LET ME TELL YOU. I fell so deep into this world that Erin Morgenstern created that I felt like I was there. I too went through that painted door in Central Park and have been stuck in a underground “library” for a few years. I couldn’t possibly explain the plot of this novel, but it’s so beautifully written and engaging. If you were a fan of The Night Circus (and if you enjoy stories and storytelling), you love this one.
✩ To Watch: I haven’t been watching much of anything. But I have been enjoying Little Boho Cottage spring videos on Youtube!
✩ To Listen To: Days of Ash EP by U2. I’ve been listening to this surprise EP on repeat since it came out a month ago on Ash Wednesday. This beautiful and poignant record touches on the Israel/Palestine conflict, Iran, and what’s happening here in the US with ICE. I love me a great political U2 album. Notable songs are Song of the Future and Yours Eternally.
✩ To Discover: Handmade paper. I’ve recently purchased tools to begin making my own paper and am eager to start! I think this would be a great spring craft to try out, along with natural dying, which I’m going to experiment with as well to create different colored papers. I’ll definitely share how the process turns out!
✩ Things to Explore This Season: tea parties, handmade paper, picnics in the park, bird watching, letter writing, snippets of spring journaling prompts, berry picking, photography walks, pressed flowers, beginning again…
