photo diary: hong kong + tokyo, japan

Hong Kong Not much of a photo diary, but after Thailand, John and I hopped on a plane to Hong Kong for Christmas. There was so much to see and do and such little time that I didn't really take that many photos in Hong Kong and the ones that I did didn't come out so great. Plus, towards the end of our long trip, I kind of got a bit lazy. My camera p[...]

Chiang Mai, Thailand

photo diary: chiang mai, thailand

chiang mai, thailand Chiang Mai was a nice break from Bangkok. We went up on an overnight train for a weekend before heading to Hong Kong, and while I wasn't feeling too well (I had an allergic reaction to something, I don't actually know what it was, but that's another story entirely) I still managed to enjoy my time there. Chiang Mai is very[...]

Ayutthaya; Thailand

photo diary: ayutthaya, thailand

Ayutthaya, Thailand While staying in Bangkok, we decided to do a day trip to the city of Ayutthaya and visit all of the ancient temples there. We contemplated doing the trip on our own, but instead booked a small group tour from our hostel for a full day tour of the temples of Ayutthaya with an English-speaking guide, lunch included for 800 Baht e[...]

Bangkok, Thailand

photo diary: bangkok, thailand

Bangkok, Thailand After a really long trip by ferry and bus, we made it to Bangkok. The bus we were on left us somewhere in central Bangkok and after an hour or so of trying to find a reasonable taxi to Hua Lamphong, we made it to our hostel, @Hua Lamphong, only to realize that we didn't have a room booked for that night. When we initially planned[...]

Thai Islands

photo diary: phuket, koh phi phi, koh Samui + Koh phangan, thailand

Phuket, Thailand We finally made it to Thailand! From Penang, we flew into Phuket, an island on the west coast of Thailand. We only stood in Phuket for a couple of days and used it as a home base for the famous Phi Phi Islands. We stood in Karon Beach on Phuket, which was very nice and probably a much better choice instead of touristy Patong [...]

photo diary: kuala lumpur + penang, malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia We visited KL for a few days in order to travel through from Singapore to Thailand. KL is a fair city. We were only there for about three days and really didn't do very much. We ended up taking a really nice Aeroline bus from the Harbourfront in Singapore to KLCC. One first impression, I thought KL was the fusion of Jakarta[...]

photo diary: singapore

Singapore Not going to lie, but I was happy to leave Indonesia for Singapore. I had been anticipating coming here the whole trip so far and was just so excited to finally be there. Indonesia is a beautiful country, don't get me wrong, but I think after a month I needed a bit of a metropolis. I am a big city girl at heart and I think I just needed a[...]

I've had this Jenn Bennett book on my bookshelf for a very long time. I've read a few of her other books, but this is one that my best friend would always ask if I had read yet. Well, I finally read it. And it was the cutest read! I love me a good contemporary YA novel!

This was the week U2 dropped their first surprise This was the week U2 dropped their first surprise EP of the year. I listened to Days of Ash on repeat and had to document it in my Hobonichi Weeks because it affected me (and I love it) so much. It even got me ranting on about the state of our world on the internet, which is something I don't normally do. But it's a mess; we're a mess. "We" as a civilization, I mean. "It" as in the World.

The songs on this particular album had me feeling all the things—sadness, anger, despair, and light, love, hope. It’s a shame that all of these feeling are true at the same time. I can never understand how we can all call ourselves human when we’ve collectively lost our humanity. (I’m generalizing here, but the last couple of years have felt like a global extinction of humanity.)

“There is no us, if there is no them.”

What makes humankind so beautiful is our differences and I can never understand how most can’t see we’re all the same in that. There's so much division and one too many sides. We all live in the inbetween, in the gray space, the "And Space" whether we want to admit it or not.

Whatever you believe in, I don’t care which side you’re on. What’s happening in Palestine, Israel, Ukraine, Russia, Iran...is wrong. What’s happening in the US is more of the same. Wrong, wrong, wrong. There’s no taking sides here. It’s all wrong no matter which coin you flip. All sides can be right, but all sides are wrong too—and that’s what people get stuck on. But when it’s innocent human lives being taken in the guise of faith, whatever faith…Fuck politics. This is all a morality war. And we need to stop being so mean to each other and learn compassion. At the end of the day, most of us want the same things anyway. There shouldn’t be an “other.” No one is above or beneath you. It’s just us, all of us. xx
